Advanced English III
Advanced American Literature is a survey course covering samplings of the major writing from the period of pre-colonial America to the post-modern era, interspersed with works from major influential European authors of corresponding periods. Significant American authors are studied from each historical/literary period including but not limited to the Puritans, the Revolutionaries, the Transcendentalists, the Romantics, the Realists, the Moderns, and the Post-Moderns. European authors include Shakespeare and Moliere. The student will hone critical thinking skills through close-reading, discussing, and writing about literary works from various genres. The course involves intensive analytical study and practice of rhetoric in preparation for the ACT and Advanced Placement (collegiate level) English.
